1911-D Indian Quarter Eagle

The 1911-D Indian Head Quarter Eagle stands alone as the classic key date of the series. The mintage of 55,680 coins marks the lowest for the series, followed by the 1914 with a mintage of 240,000. The remaining coins of the series generally range from 400,000 to 700,000 pieces.

Examples of the 1911-D are rare in any grade, although a few high grade examples have appeared on the market during the last few decades. Unlike the Half Eagle denomination, most mint marks are strong, although collectors should be aware of weakly struck specimens. The finest known are approximately half a dozen MS-66’s, which have sold for nearly $200,000 at recent auctions.
